Ronald Schmidt - Town Council, Place 2

I have had the privilege to serve you, as a Councilmember since May of 2017, when Don Moser, Todd Mankin and I answered what we felt was a call to change the direction that Argyle was being pushed towards. Our goals included better transparency, a common vision, and a greater voice for the citizens in how we move our town forward.  A lot of work has been done, and a lot more remains to be done, to solidify these building blocks that we have emplaced so far.

I grew up in a small town, not far from San Antonio, and so can appreciate why Argyle is so special to many of us. For many of us, Argyle is our dream town, whether you have lived here for 20+ years or just moved here in the last year. Going forward will be a careful balance between preservation and planning. We want to preserve the small town charm most of us have come to appreciate, yet plan for the future so that we get the right growth that will complement our town and preserve its character as we have grown to like.

I’m running for re-election to continue the work we have started. I believe I have given it my all and left nothing on the table in these last two years and have stayed the course never forgetting why you elected me. During that time I helped reshape the future land use plan, introduced policies to improve transparency and the town’s communication, helped create our vision statement, and worked on a budget which would allow for our town’s largest road revitalization, just to name a few. Currently, I’m helping reform our tree ordinance, which will hopefully preserve our trees without hindering the right development. I’m also the chair for a new committee which will focus on drafting a code of ethics for not only our elected and appointed officials, but also our town’s staff. I believe the confidence voters should have in their elected officials should be without reproach, and the code of ethics should support it.

Our next big project will be to create a strategic plan for the town, which will identify opportunities and challenges, and give us a roadmap for the future. This work will be most important because it will eliminate the guesswork and speculation, which may have led prior leadership to make poor choices. In that, I believe that I can still best serve our community as Place 2 Councilmember.

My background is an MBA with a concentration in Finance and a Masters in Accounting, with a minor in Economics. I spent the early years of my career as a Commercial Real Estate Appraiser and so I understand what creates and preserves real estate values, as that was part of my job. Most recently, I’m the Program Chair for Business Studies at a local college. I believe in servant leadership and retired from the ARMY three years ago after 30 years of service. I have never forgotten that government is supposed to be "for the people and by the people". I want to serve you and Argyle for another two years. Please support me in my re-election campaign. My cell number is 469-682-0452. I would love to hear what you think are the most important and immediate issues facing Argyle. Thank you for your support and your vote.
